Rusty Nickles 316's pre RAW 1000 thoughts

Well here we are. Mere hours from the historic 1000th episode of RAW. I'm super excited. People are coming over to watch, it's going to be 3 hours long and it has to have some good stuff. It has to, right? I mean, this thing has more hype behind it than most of the ppv's. But the WWE has a bad history of having themed episodes that never further stories or deliver more than fluff. I'm a little worried about that happening tonight.

Because of spoilers i cant go look up what was advertised for tonight. So i'll have to go off the top of my head. here is what i'm looking forward to or dreading in tonight's historic RAW.

DX : I will only care about the DX reunion if Road Dogg and Billy Gunn show up. Otherwise I don't really care about the HHH and HBK DX. Sometimes i wonder if the WWE fans know that businessman HHH and DX HHH are the same guy. I expect 10 minutes of theme song and posing and then a goofy promo where HHH/HBK entertain each other......

BROCK LESNER :....... UNLESS Brock comes out and breaks up the DX back patting. I am super excited to see Lesner and Paul E. I never thought i would say that but Brock is a monster and a welcome addition to the WWE. I like how he is never on. It's like  the old territories where a heel would only be in town for the summer. I can't wait to see what he does and i cant wait to hear Paul E talk.

THE WEDDING: This has to be good. You can't go wrong with a ruined wedding. I'm really excited to see just what ruins it.

THE ROCK: He said he is gunning for the belt one last time. I really hope that doesn't mean Cena will will beat Punk and hold the belt till Mania.GAG GAG GAG GAG GAG

CENA: Like i said above. What if he wins. Which bridge will you jump off of if he does. It will be exciting to see what happens in his match with Punk tho, win or lose.

PUNK: I heard rumblings over a punk heel turn. Wouldn't that be the best thing ever. What if it happens tonight. Better find a bridge that's easy to clime back up just in case this happens.

ZIGGLER: I don't have any predictions for him Just want him on the show kickin ass.

I'm sure we will see some more superstars. And I'm very excited for that.  I really hope they build the next six months off this one show. But keeping in mind WWE's track record, I'm not getting my hopes up.

OOOOOooooh YEEEEaaaaaahhh Poncho Man's Money In The Bank Thoughts

Let’s see….I didn’t take notes but I think I can remember this. This show was good but predictable. After every match I said “that what I thought would happen.”

Ziggles wins. That was a great match. Vicki getting in there was awesome. That spear on Cody Rhodes was brutal. Big bumps all over. Tyson Kidd’s sunset power bomb from the ladder that Ziggles looked like he messed up was awesome too. They need to fire Albert/Tensai. His shit was fucking sloppy. He looked like he was legit trying to hurt somebody.

The Miz returns. Awesome?

Alberto Del Rio vs. Sheamus. Uh….has any one else noticed how Sheamus is just becoming a weird looking Triple H. The whole match felt like a Triple H match. Oddly….it wasn’t bad. I think, like Triple H, get Sheamus with a really good technical guy and they can pull something off. Why the hell did Del Rio ever wear a mask at anytime in his career. He’s handsome. Rick Martel handsome. He’s going to get all the Girls. Girls in Cars.

Prime Time Players vs. The Puerto Ricans Who Don’t Spit In The Face Of Those Who Don’t Want To Be Cool. Whatever. I guess it’s nice to have Tag Teams with managers and stuff. I just don’t care yet. Give me The Kings Of Wrestling or Worlds’ Greatest Tag Team or Demolition. Yes I’d rather see a dead guy and an old guy than the Prime Time Players. Because they look cool.

Punk vs. DBD. That was incredible. Simply incredible. Match of the year (and I’d just watched Davey Richards vs. Michael Elgin earlier in the day). No DQ made this so much different than the last time they faced. AJ’s involvement was great. They keep her in play. No resolution. We’re gonna get 4 PPVs out of this feud. Man…I was stoked.

The Ryback vs. some slightly more well known losers. I never realized he was T.Reks. The Ryback continues to have the same match over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. But hey…..let’s keep Rusty happy and have them “Feed Me More.”

The ladies have a boring match. YAY. They get rid of Kharma because she lied about having the baby and then said she was emotionally distraught after actually losing it. At least that’s what the sheets say. What was the 3 appearances for a year and a half of work? At least The Queen is coming soon.

Ummmmm…..So Cena wins. Who would have thunk? I was really hoping that it was a botch when he ripped it off the thing and they just went with it. Or maybe Cena secretly planned to rip it off so he’d have to get the title back. Or maybe he’ll be the first person to lose when cashing it in. I think all of those are pipe dreams. What struck me during this match is that Jericho has entered the 2002-2010 Shawn Michaels portion of his career. He fantastic worker that is there just to help get young guys over. Jericho’s match with Sheamus the other day might have been my favorite since he’s been back (and he face Punk a bunch….which shows how I felt their styles jelled). Anyways….Think Cena beats Punk on The 1000th Raw? HMMM HMMM HMMM???!?!

Some great moments here. We’ve really moved back into the 80s I feel. Punk just feels like Macho Man waiting for Hulk Hogan (Cena) to come and get him. DBD is Steamboat!? Del Rio is the Million Dollar Man? Sandow is the Genius? Ziggles is Mr. Perfect? I feel like I could go all night. Anyways…..I’m going to go find out what happened on Raw now. Peace Out From The Poncho Man.

SCW Mat Classic from the Poncho Man

Honestly I heard Daniel Bryan talking about this in an interview. I was intrigued so I looked it up and I'm disappointed this isn't on any of Shawn Michael's DVD sets. Just a really fun 13 minutes of your life that you'll be glad you wasted. Stupid Marty Jannetty being a druggy.

Rusty Nickles presents SCW Mat Classics

Last weeks visit by Marshal really helped pull me out of my wrestling slump. I feel like i can watch it with new eyes. For about a month wrestling felt like homework. But after the 13 hour marathon i am BORN AGAIN!!!

And here is the proof. Inspired by the preachings of Marshal and the Poncho Man i decided to download every RAW from 1996 and start watchin'. And holy cow, I have loved it so far. You can just tell that it's a really interesting time in wrestling. The old wave is slowly creeping out while the new wave is crashing in. In one of the first episodes of the year we meet Steve Austin!!! It's just a great time for wrestling and I'm having a lot of fun plowing thru these episodes.

The following match was shown, abridged, on RAW. It's from the last In Your House PPV from 1995. I really like the way that Bret Hart is selling everything. He gets little spurts of energy and you think he is going to have a big comeback but right away the Bulldog gets the upper hand. You would never see that happen now. Super Cena would never sell like this.

So Enjoy this match and let me know what ya think.

Rusty Matters Marshall Report

At 9:30 am on the 3rd of July, two forces collided to create the first ever Rusty Matters Marshall Report.  I wanted to make a better sounding name and cool graphic for this, but couldn't wait to post it.  I always wondered what it would be like to do this.  Turns out it's really really fun.  Poncho Man, we hope you enjoy the first ever fake podcast which you are the sole addressee of.
